Flaco Hotsprings

Located 77 kilometers away from San Fernando and 1720 meters above sea level, Termas del Flaco (Skinny Guy Thermal Waters) is a well-known place for Chileans, who travel around three hours from Santiago to enjoy warm thermal waters and beautiful landscapes by the Andes.

The entrance to the complex is only open during summer holidays, between December and Easter (April), because the road up to the hotel goes alongside the mountains and is usually closed in winter time due to heavy snow. It’s a 60 kilometer long road, with no pavement, that can be covered by any type of vehicle.

Once you are on top of the mountain, the fun begins. Children and adults can enjoy baths in natural pools filled with water rich in minerals, such as calcium and sulfates, which are amazing to relax muscles and are recommended for people who suffer of arthritis, rheumatism, lumbago, gout, sciatica, rhinitis and even simple colds.

The thermal waters are very hot, starting at 37ºC and going up to 96ºC. You can also take vapor baths, mud therapy sessions, hot springs, cold swimming pool and other natural therapies that are perfect to indulge in yourself for a little while.

If you travel with children, do not despair, because at the complex you can find more than just swimming pools. There are several other places you can visit and go on excursions nearby. Guides will take you to tourism attractions such as Laguna del Maule, Paseo Las Damas or visits to the Virgin, image located about two miles from the hotel.

Another interesting place to visit, especially if you travel with children, is the national Monument known as Huellas de Dinosaurio (Dinosaur’s Tracks), which is about a mile from the hotel next to the thermal waters and that, according to specialists, are tracks left by these millenary animals thousands of years ago, which got imprinted in the soil through an erosion process.

The excursion to the Dinosaur’s Tracks can be done by foot or horse. The road is pretty hard to cover because it is in the middle of the Andes, so it is always recommended to inquire at the hotel counter for ways to get there and the state of the road.

Although Termas del Flaco is nearby Santiago, and you can travel for the day, you can also choose to stay at the hotel by them. It features 90 rooms, fully equipped with private bathroom and thermal water shower system.

The restaurant at the hotel provides four meals a day, always keeping in mind healthy and balanced food using season products. Food is international and you can find a little bit of everything.

Other services are unlimited use of the thermal baths, mud tubs and vapor bath sessions. You can also choose between a variety of massages with mud, which are ideal to get rid of all sort of tension and relax completely after a day walking though the surroundings.

There you have it. Although the Chilean summer is hot, you can always take refuge in the South and enjoy a top quality service, with personalized attention, where relaxation is the only priority and all you should worry about.
