Hotel Lakutaia, getting to know Cape Horn

Located in the most southern place in the world, in the heart of Puerto Wiliams, Hotel Lakutaia takes advantage of the beautiful surroundings to attract tourists from all over the world, offering them a comfortable place, with top-quality service and a series of activities that can be enjoyed by families and groups of friends.

There are 24 double rooms in the hotel, designed to relax and rest, and built with noble materials that go perfectly with the world outside: wonderful mountains and forests.

The rooms include private bathroom, telephone, and central heating; while the hotel offers laundry service and internet, several relaxing and gathering areas and a complete library-map room where you can find books and magazines with information on the history and natural resources of the region.

Lukutaia also organizes ecological excursions to nearby places that, due to the hotel’s location, become places of indescribable beauty. Fiords, bays, islands, hills, urban centers, indigenous settlements, natural attractions and Cape Horn, only a few miles away from each other.

One of the most entertaining trips is to the glaciers of the end of the world, where you follow the path covered by Charles Darwin over 150 years ago. The trip is done on a sailing boat to Tierra del Fuego, where you can enjoy a traditional Patagonia asado (or BBQ). The excursion continues to Caleta Olla, where you can visit millenary glaciers.

Another popular excursión tourists make is to Wulaia, in Navarino Island, where the Yaman people used to live. After going up a mountain and enjoying the view, the trip ends with a delicious asado in the middle of Patagonia.

Other tourism circuits organized by the hotel feature visits to the pier (Marina Veleros), the Martin Gusinde Museum, the waterfalls in Robalo River, a visit to Kipakar where you can find crafts, and a zodiac visit to the Cormorans Island.

Besides all the excursions up and down the most southern place in the world, Lukutaia also organizes activities in open air such as kayak and trekking in Lauta, mountan bike, golf, horseback riding, sailing, walks to Castors Lagoon and matches of Rayuela, a typical Chilean game.

The hotel takes pride in educating and incentive its visitors into taking care of the environment and getting to know all the wonders the planet has to offer. That is why the excursions and visits to places have an environmentalist approach, where information is handed out about the different places and endemic species in the region.

Lakutaia is found in the middle of Yagan land, nomad people who had the control over this area for centuries, before the Spaniards arrived to the continent. Yagan people left their mark all over the region and were studied by scientists, such as Charles Darwin. While you visit Lakutaia you will be able to find out more about their story, traditions and legacy.

So there you have it. If you are looking for a place of indescribable beauty, where nature is the protagonist; a comfortable place, where you can have delicious meals; a place that wants you to have a great vacation, where you can see all the surroundings and spend unforgettable days… Lakutaia has thought about all of this and it is just waiting to show you.
