Beaches, bays, islands and investigation centers are some of the many attractions in La Serena, an ideal place to practice outdoor activities and sports, such as fly fishing and surfing. The are also beautiful beaches like Tongoy, Morrillos, Las Tacas, Guanaqueros, Totoralillo, Peñuelas and La Herradura. There are special places as well, where protected areas are the home of a varied flora and fauna; an example is the Humboldt Penguin National Reserve, ideal for ecotourism in Choros, Damas and Chañaral Islands. La Serena has historical and archaeological museums, and fantastic colonial architecture. Climate

Semiarid. Arid by the north and mild by the south. The shore temperatures are homogeneuos, in the interior the temperature oscillates between day and night time. Rain during winter season.
