Before Caldera existed, Puerto Viejo was the main port in Copiapo, until 1850 when the Caldera-Copiapo train was built. Today, Puerto Viejo is a beach with singular topography. It doesn´t have tourist services, and only in summertime you will find some visitors.

To Puerto Viejo: Land route, by Route 5 North.
When to go?
Desert weather, with homogeneous temperatures in the shore. The high media temperature is 18,4ºC and the lowest is 4,9ºC. The rain is amost non existent due to shore couldiness, with a high media of 14,8 milimeters.
