Enjoy this wonderful excursion to Magallanes Reserve, where we observe the great variety of flora and fauna in this spectacular reserve.
Itinerary
Reserva Magallanes is a wildlife protected areas with more than 20.000 hectares of surface located only seven kilometers from the city of Punta Arenas. Its importance is owed for being the origin of “rio de las minas”, river which is feeding the city and it is the place where coal mining started as activity in Patagonia in 1869.
The excursion begins across differente neighbourhoods in the city to and unpaved road toward the entrance of the reserve. Upon arrival we have to go through a gravel road surrounded by a forest of beech trees up to the beginning of the trail, where a walk for half an our is held to enjoy the landscape. during the walk we will observe differente species of local flora like romerillo (chiliotricum difusum), lenga (nothofagus pumilio) and coigue (nothofagus betuloides), and some birds such as black chinned siskins, crested caracaras, austral thrush, sparrows and chimango caracaras, among others. from the trail we will also have a panoramic view over the valley of “Rio de las Minas” on the way to the Strait of Magellan. Return is done by the same way.

Physical demand: 1 km (3/4 of a mile) walk on a irregular area usually windy.
