Welcome to VisitChile.com, News March 11 2010
The area affected by the earthquake is located mainly on the coast between Rancagua and Concepcion (Central-Southern Chile). See Map. The earthquake's epicenter was near the city of Concepción. The infrastructure in Santiago has resisted well and almost all hotels are fully functional. The main tourist destinations in Chile such as San Pedro de Atacama, Easter Island, Torres del Paine in Patagonia, Ski Resorts and the southern lakes were NOT affected by the earthquake as being far from the epicenter, so they are fully operational The Santiago airport is operating almost normally and will be 100% operative next week.
