Located in Bernardo O´Higgins National Park, Pio XI Glacier is another must-sther must-see place in the region. Pio XI is as big as Santiago, with a surface of 1265 squared kilometers, which grows 50 meters in height, length and density every day. This is a unique quality, all the other glaciers in Patagonia and in most areas of the world are losing extension, whereas Pio XI keeps growing everyday. Pio XI Glacier, the biggest one in South America, offers a unique view of the landscape, wether you chose to see it from a boat or standing on it, if weather conditions permit it.

Santiago-Punta Arenas: Airway. Punta Arenas-Puerto Natales: Land route, by Route 9 north. Puerto Natales-Pio XI Glacier: seaway, by special tours or charters. Santiago-Puerto Montt: Land route and airway Puerto Montt-Puerto Natales: Seaway.

When to go?

January, February, March, October, November, December.

Cold high weather. Its temperatures are lower than 0°C. The rain – usually as snow- surpasses 2000 milimeters per year.
