Itinerary
- Puerto Natales is located on the coast of the Señoret channel, between the Almirante Montt gulf and the Última Esperanza fjord. It is the capital of the province of Última Esperanza, named after the navigator Juan Ladrillero. Ultima Esperanza Sound was inhabited by the Aonikenk and Kaweskar and was discovered in 1557 by the navigator Juan Ladrillero in search of a route to the Strait of Magellan. By 1830, the HMS Beagle expedition explored the entire area that Ladrillero sailed three centuries ago. Some of these navigators were: Robert Fitzroy, William Skyring, James Kirke and the naturalist Charles Darwin. By 1870, there was another important traveler who ventured into these desolate territories, Santiago Zamora, known as Baqueano Zamora. He is remembered for having discovered the Paine Lake District and large herds of wild animals.
