Trekking in the mystical Sierra Baguales, a route of marine fossils with more than 50 million years of history.There are few places that can match the haunting beauty of the isolated Sierra Baguales mountain range, with its serrated reliefs and reddish mountains that amaze any of its visitors. Between the border of Argentina and Chile, in the middle of the mountain range, lies Sierra Baguales. It is located 65 km northeast of Torres del Paine National Park and 134 km from Puerto Natales.
This region that was a seabed more than 50 million years ago and today marvels us with the surprises of the remote past where it may be possible to observe Baguales horses.

Itinerary
Starting time: 7:30am
- Trekking Sierra Baguales from Puerto Natales: Our full day excursion in Sierra Baguales begins with the pick up of the passenger at his hotel in the city of Puerto Natales. Then, we will start the transfer to the mysterious Sierra Baguales.
- After 2 hours of travel towards Torres del Paine, we make a detour to Sierra Baguales, about 60 kilometers northeast of Torres del Paine Park.
- Preparation for the Sierra Baguales Trek: Once we arrive at Estancia 3R "rural tourism", we will enjoy a welcome coffee and a short talk about Patagonia and the ranch.
- We will talk about the process of colonization of Patagonia, history of the first human occupations of the place, customs and social importance of the place for the first inhabitants of the region such as the Tehuelches or Aonikenk.
- Trekking Sierra Baguales - Laguna Irene Sector and Birdwatching: We will start our trekking in Sierra Baguales, which is divided into two sections in order to know all the attractions that offer us the 6,000 hectares where the activity takes place.
- In the first stage we will make a short walk of half an hour to visit the Irene Lagoon, an ideal place to observe and photograph the birds of the surroundings in which the largest bird of Patagonia, the Andean condor, stands out.
- Trekking Sierra Baguales - Marine fossils sector: Then we will board our vehicle to go to where we will start the Sierra Baguales Trekking, which will cover a distance of approximately 12.5 km.
- We will take a medium intensity trail, with a view of the Bagual mountain range, an area inhabited by pumas, guanacos and "wild" Baguales horses.
- After a little more than 3 hours of hiking, we will find marine fossils, which are more than 50 million years old.
- Lunch at the Sierra Baguales viewpoint: The excursion continues to a viewpoint located 1,200 meters above sea level, from where it is possible to have a panoramic view of the entire Sierra Baguales.
- With a little bit of luck during our trekking we may run into a herd of Baguales horses that inhabit the area.}
- Here we will have time to enjoy our box lunch, and then take the road back to the estancia, to board the vehicle that will take us back to Puerto Natales.
