La Serena

In Northern Chile, about five hours away from Santiago, there is a beautiful city that each year receives more and more visitors because of its wonderful beaches, delicious food and varied activities: La Serena.

Each year the city takes more care of itself for tourism sake. La Serena has a unique hotel offer, and tourists can choose between luxury hotels, cabins, apartments or camping sectors. There is something for everybody and for every budget.

Authorities are taking notice abut the importance of the city and you can tell. La Serena gets prettier everyday, with gardens that adorn the main streets, an important vigilance system and prevention in situ so it has nothing to envy other big cities in the world.

So now you can travel to Valle de Elqui, where you can find exquisite olives and native pisco sour, a delight you cannot keep yourself from trying. The area features sunny days everyday and fresh nights, perfect for taking walks at night after dinner and enjoy the starry sky… something impossible to even try in bigger cities.

Nature delivers a different panorama here too, with palm trees and a clear sky. La Serena usually wakes up with clouds all over but by noon they are all gone and letting through the sun, which waits for you and your family by Avenida del Mar, the main street right by the ocean.

With hundreds of kilometers of coast, La Serena presents itself to the world with beautiful beaches that are visited by surf fans from all over the world. There are twelve beaches in total: El Faro, Los Fuertes, Mansa, Blanca, La Barca, 4 Esquinas, La Marina, El Pescador, El Corsario, Hipocampo, Las Gaviotas and Canto del Agua.

Meanwhile, the city offers a tourism circuit that will delight kids and grown-ups, with parks and games you can spend your afternoon at, as well as long beaches where you can rest. There are also historic monuments and museums where you can go and learn more about the area, the geography, the history and about important people who were born in the city, such as President Gabriel González Videla, amongst others.

Amongst the parks you can visit: Francisco de Aguirre Avenue, in the center of downtown, and Gabriel Coll Park, which you can visit by bus or car to enjoy a fun afternoon around nature after a nice BBQ.

The offer is more varied in downtown La Serena, where you can find most of the hotels and shelters to sleep in. There, the attractions include theaters, pubs, restaurants, stores, movie theaters, art galleries, expositions, sports events, music and concerts, amongst many others.
