Known by the mineral industry that existed in the 19th century(Chañarcillo silver mine), the region is the perfect place for those who enjoy adventure and outdoor activities.

Climbing can be done up the Incahuasi, Tres Cruces mountains and the Ojos del Salado Volcano; a must-try activity for tourists from all over the world.

You can find amazing landscapes in the Tres Cruces Mountain National Park, located in the Chilean Andes, with the Maricunga Salar and Santa Rosa and Negro Francisco Lagoons. It has rich fauna like pink flamingos, ducks and geese.

Another attraction is the Copiapo Valley, an important agricultural center, and the moldy desert, with a colorful vegetation in the middle of nowhere, phenomenon that happens every 3 or 4 years.

The Atacama Region has great archaeological value. There are Inca, Molle and Diaguita cultures vestted in Finca Chañaral, Punta Brava, Viña del Cerro and La Puerta, among others.

The catholic celebrations, like La Candelaria and La Fiesta del Carmen are another interesting activities of the region.

How to get there?

Anywhere-Copiapo: Land route, by Route 5 North. Public and private transportation. Airway (Chamonte Small Airport)

Copiapo- Highlands: Land route, by International Route CH-31.

When to go?

All year long, better during summer time.

Climate

High desertic weather. The temperature oscillates between day and night time in the interior. Desert weather, with homogeneous temperatures in the shore. The summer rain is more frequent with a high media of 14,8 milimeters. The high media temperature is 18,4ºC and the lowest is 4,9ºC, although it can reach the -15ºC.
