A desert filled with flowers is one of nature's misteries. However, this phenomenon happens in the third region, from the Pajonales Stream to the second region border.

The vegetation invites the visitors from all over the world to enjoy this landscape. You can also see the animals that live in the desert, such as the desert cow, birds, coleopteral and reptiles.

This phenomenon occurrs by the end of July or August, although sometimes it remains until November.

Some of the species you can find are red and yellow añañucas, white flowers of Huilli, Pink Flowers of Pata de Guanaco, skyblue and pink suspiros, white and blue malvillas, coronillas de fraile, senecios, lirios and yellow cartuchos, copiapoas, lion garras and foxes ears.

Location

Third region. Located 20 kilometers south of Copiapo.

How to get there?

To the moldy desert: land route, by Route 5 North, between the 780 and 735 kilometers.

When to go?

July, August, September, October and November.

Climate

Desert weather. The temperature oscillates between day and night time, and the summer rain is more frequent with a high media of 14,8 milimeters. The high media temperature is 18,4ºC and the lowest is 4,9ºC.

Camino del Inca, Lamas River springs, Copiapo, Atacama desert, El Salvador, Santa Rosa Lagoon, Verde Lagoon, Nevado Tres Cruces National Park, Los Loros town, Maricunga town, Negro River springs, Totoral, Ojos del Salado Volcano.

Admission

Free entrance. You should enquire about its status before heading up to the desert. It is an impredictable phenomena that sometimes waits three or four years to actually happen.
