Itinerary

Season: November to February.

The rural community of Rio Verde is located on the shores of Skyring Sound, 95 kilometres to the Northwest of the city of Punta Arenas. It is a little village founded during the last century over the base of the typical Patagonian farm.

The excursion begins through the vast, windswept and arid Patagonian steppe. Around the road different farms can be found, making the base for the main economic activity of the area. The route continues bordering the Fitz-Roy Channel and Skyring Sound, both names were members of the British geographic expeditions held in the area during the XIX century. The fauna is composed by different species of birds, like geese, ducks, condors, flamingos and rheas, among others. On the way we will find the monument to the Kaweshkar canoe that commemorates the original people of the area that inhabited the place for thousands of years before the arrival of the white men. Upon arrival in Rio Verde, we will enjoy a typical Patagonian lamb barbecue and afterward a visit around the village is held. The return is done by the same way.
