5 beautiful lakes in Chile

Some of the most beautiful places to enjoy and rest are our lakes. A way of being at the beach but surrounded by wooded nature and mountains. We invite you to know 5 lakes that you will want to return every year to enjoy at any time.

Lake Calafquén: This lake is located 30 kilometers south of Villarrica, in the IX region of Araucanía. Its waters are of glacial origin and on its shore we find the resorts of Coñaripe, Licán Ray and Calafquén.

In addition to its beautiful scenery and calm waters ideal for swimming and resting, it allows all kinds of water activities such as sailing and sport fishing. Lake Calafquén belongs to the Siete Lagos tourist circuit.

Lake Todos Los Santos: Located in the X Region of Los Lagos, 76 kilometers east of the beautiful city of Puerto Varas, Lake Todos Los Santos surprises and enchants us with its crystal clear turquoise waters, due to the presence of minerals such as copper. Its waters are deep (more than 300 meters) and of glacial origin. It is possible to cross it in boats that also make the Andean Crossing, linking Puerto Varas with San Carlos de Bariloche and Nahuel Huapi Lake in Argentina. In addition, its waters give rise to the famous Saltos del Petrohué, waterfalls that fall with force through the geological formations caused by ancient volcanic activity in the area. On its banks are the towns of Petrohué and Peulla. Recommendation: be careful during the first weeks of January, due to the presence of the annoying "colihuachos", large horseflies that can interrupt the tranquility of your vacation.

Lake Cucao and Lake Hullinco: This lake or lagoon is located in the western part of Chiloé Island, within the Chiloé National Park. It is located in the commune of Chonchi and its waters reach the Pacific Ocean. Lake Huillinco is also located in the Chiloé National Park. In its waters you can practice water activities such as windsurfing, sailing and kayaking.

Lake Colico: Lake Colico is another lake located in the IX region of Araucania, 20 kilometers south of the town of Cunco, like Lake Budi. Its beautiful landscapes and the large amount of fauna present in its waters make it an interesting place for tourism and especially activities such as sport fishing, among other water activities. In the waters of Lake Colico we can find trout and silversides, among others.

Lake Rapel: It is one of the favorite places to rest and vacation. It was created as an artificial reservoir, but it became one of the most touristic sectors of the country. It is located in the VI region and can be visited throughout the year, due to the pleasant climate of the area. It is ideal for water sports such as kayaking, water skiing, sailing and also sport fishing, especially silversides.

On the shores of Lake Rapel there are many lodging alternatives, camping areas, as well as beautiful nature and the nearby town of Las Cabras, where you can learn about Chilean colonial traditions, such as handicrafts, rodeos, horseback riding, rural architecture and folk music.
