Antarctic Adventure

We invite you to learn how you can become an explorer and reach the southernmost frozen continent in the world.

We start in Ushuaia: From this Argentine city located in Tierra del Fuego, most of the cruise ships that arrive to Antarctica depart. The voyage takes us to the Drake Passage - the sea that separates South America from Antarctica, located between the South Shetland Islands and Cape Horn. Crossing the Drake Passage is quite an adventure, as its rough waters can have waves of great magnitude. In the middle of this expedition, we will observe a great amount of marine fauna such as albatrosses and different kinds of petrels.

Disembark in the surrounding islands: Before reaching Antarctica there are several islands, most of them used as scientific bases. Here we will be able to disembark to discover the fauna directly, such as Gentoo penguins and Wedell seals.

Arrival in Antarctica: As you approach the Antarctic continent, it is possible to arrive at Paradise Bay, one of the two natural ports that exist in Antarctica for the disembarkation of ships. Here you will be impressed by the imposing landscape, surrounded by glaciers in all its extension. While in Antarctica, it is possible to take zodiac boat trips to other surrounding islands, such as Wiencke Island. At Jougla Point we will find Lockroy harbor, where there is an open museum to learn about the old abandoned scientific bases. There is also a souvenir store that raises funds for the conservation of other historical sites in Antarctica. Weather permitting, Lockroy harbor is an excellent alternative for camping and spending the night in the middle of Antarctica.

Visit the South Shetland Islands: This is the name of the archipelago of islands located in the Southern Ocean, approximately 120 kilometers away from the Antarctic Peninsula. Several scientific bases belonging to different countries are located there.

Visit Deception Island: It is one of the most interesting of the South Sheltland archipelago. It corresponds to a volcano and in its summit we find a crater, with an altitude of more than 500 meters above sea level. When visiting it we will discover the ruins of a whaling plant, converted into a nest for various species of birds such as terns, petrels and storm petrels. We will also find hot springs and a natural harbor where you can disembark and explore the surroundings.

Discover the fauna in Livingston Island: It is located 20 kilometers south of Deception Island and in Hannah Point we can find lots of marine fauna such as penguins and elephant seals, as well as a unique landscape.

Our recommendations: Do not forget that when visiting Antarctica you will embark on an adventure where the weather is usually changeable and extreme. The average temperature on this frozen continent is -20ºC. Depending on the time of year, daylight hours are different. In summer, due to the inclination of the earth, the days are 24 hours of light, which is known as "white night". Winter and summer last six months. It is essential that you bring the appropriate clothing, such as thermal socks and underwear, warm polar fleece clothing (it retains heat better); waterproof jackets and pants (ski clothes are adequate) and comfortable and warm clothes and shoes to wear inside the ship and during the trip. We also suggest you bring a bathing suit in case you want to enjoy the hot springs and accessories to protect you from the cold: gloves, hat and scarves. If you want to live an adventure in Antarctica, remember that the southernmost continent in the world is located in the south of our country, you just need to dare to discover it.
