Aysén could become the new Geopark of Chile

A geopark is an area with distinct natural attributes to which the participation of the local community is added to enhance its tourist attractiveness. UNESCO has a Global Network of Geoparks in 35 countries.

Chile already has the Kutralcura Geopark, which includes the area of the Llaima volcano and the Conguillío National Park in the IX Region. With this initiative, the Aysén region could enhance its geosites and become an area of scientific, tourist and cultural interest.

Some of these geosites - that is, very characteristic and unique areas of a particular zone - are the Marble Cathedral, General Carrera Lake, Queulat National Park and the Southern Ice Fields, to name a few.

The unique morphology of these sites, together with its natural beauty make Aysén an outstanding place in the rest of the world. Hopefully it will soon become our nation's second geopark.
