Experience astro-tourism in Chile

This is why we propose 5 astronomical adventures for you to discover the universe looking through the clearest skies in the world:

1.- San Pedro de Atacama: San Pedro besides being a cosmopolitan city, surrounded by multiple natural attractions such as the Moon Valley, the Tatio Geysers and the Atacama Salt Flat, also allows astronomical observations like nowhere else.

The absence of light pollution in the desert allows you to marvel at nights full of stars. This astronomical tour can be done all year round, but it is recommended not to choose a night with a full moon, which does not allow you to see the constellations in the best way.

2.- La Serena and Coquimbo: These are the best skies for astronomy par excellence. In this area we find some of the most important observatories in the world, such as Tololo and La Silla, but also a few kilometers from La Serena is the Mamalluca observatory, which offers guided night tours to learn about these emblematic skies.

Through a visit to the Mamalluca Observatory you can learn about the stars, planets and galaxies that can be seen from its facilities, located 1,200 meters above sea level and without light pollution that could interrupt the experience.

3.- Antofagasta: Recently, the II region began to exploit the astro-tourism industry, especially through the Ckoirama observatory (kunza for "twilight"), which is located in the Atacama Desert, approximately 65 kilometers away from the city of Antofagasta. To visit it there are special programs that allow the registration of visitors. For more information you can check the official website of the Ckoraima observatory.

4- Easter Island: The magical Easter Island not only offers beaches, tradition and outdoor activities, but also some astronomy excursions. In clear skies the view of the sky in the middle of the Pacific Ocean is privileged. If you have the opportunity, do not miss the chance to observe the stars from this mystical place, which is more than an adventure, it is an experience.

5- Cajón del Maipo: Believe it or not, only 50 kilometers from the center of the capital we also find observatories in the middle of the mountains. The Cajón del Maipo is a privileged destination, not only for its richness in natural areas, fauna and beautiful landscapes, but also for its nights full of stars on clear days. You can go on sightseeing tours or simply go into the night with caution along the road that leads to Baños Colina and enjoy a unique and wonderful spectacle.
