It takes place on the last weekend of May (May 24–25) and invites you to discover Chile’s historical, architectural, and cultural treasures. This special date was established in 1999 by Chile’s Ministry of Cultures, Arts and Heritage.

When and Where Is Heritage Day Celebrated?

Heritage Day is celebrated across Chile, from Arica in the north to Punta Arenas in the south, on May 24 and 25. More than 3,000 public and private spaces open their doors for you to explore—whether you’re a tourist or a local resident.

You’ll have the chance to take part in over 3,000 events: guided tours, concerts, workshops, talks, exhibitions, theater performances, heritage walks, and culinary experiences. Here are five cities with standout cultural programs—take note!

Santiago de Chile

If you're in the capital, don’t miss its 500+ activities. You can visit La Moneda Palace, the National Museum of Fine Arts, or the National Library. We also recommend exploring the historic neighborhoods of Yungay and Lastarria, full of culture and charm.

Valparaíso

Explore the famous hills of Valparaíso on guided walks through Cerro Alegre and Cerro Concepción. Visit the National Maritime Museum and La Sebastiana, the former home of poet Pablo Neruda. You’ll enjoy the color, architecture, and stunning views of this iconic port city.

Viña del Mar

Viña del Mar welcomes you with a diverse schedule of events. You can take guided tours of the Santa Inés Cemetery and the Municipal Theater. At the Palacio Rioja Museum, enjoy watercolor and printmaking workshops, along with a performance by the Viña del Mar Folk Ballet.
