Lake Lanalhue and Lake Lleu Lleu, warm waters and cultural tourism
Lake Lanalhue is located between the cities of Contulmo and Cañete. Its particularity is its warm waters, which serve as an ecosystem for various aquatic birds, including the black-necked swan.
It is one of the favorite places to visit during the summer, since its waters are calm and ideal for swimming and water activities. In its shore there are multiple alternatives of lodging for all prices and it still allows to enjoy calmness during the vacations, reason why it is an excellent option if you think about a family trip.
In its 32 square kilometers of surface you can enjoy some nautical activities, including kayaking, windsurfing and water skiing. Some places offer pedal boats and in the warmer season, of course swimming.
Lake Lanalhue is located in the Elicura Valley, one of the most famous areas to learn more about the Mapuche culture, as there are several Lafkenche communities, or "people of the coast". If you visit the area in winter you can participate in the celebration of We Tripantú or Mapuche New Year, but throughout the year visitors can live the experience of sleeping in a ruca, prepare their food with them and learn about their culture by listening to their stories and legends. The Mapuche communities are also dedicated to silver handicrafts, cultivation of medicinal herbs and loom weaving, so you can take a beautiful souvenir of their traditions.
Very close to Lake Lanalhue, Lake Lleu Lleu is also located. It is considered the purest lake in Chile, due to the care that the Mapuche communities have with their environment and their concern that tourism does not harm the ecosystem of the area. Thus, Lake Lleu Lleu is in a more natural state.
It has beautiful landscapes framed by the Nahuelbuta Mountain Range. In its waters you can go boating, sport fishing, kayaking and windsurfing. It also has trails in the surrounding area where you can go trekking, biking and horseback riding, watching the clear, starry skies, crystal clear waters and the unique nature of the area.
Although it can be visited all year round, we recommend planning your trip for the spring and summer months, where you can observe the flowering trees and the temperatures are more pleasant, allowing for more outdoor activities with less rainy days. To get to Lanalhue and Lleu Lleu you can use your own vehicle or take one of the public buses that circulate around the area. From the city of Santiago it is approximately 650 kilometers, an 8 hour trip. From Concepción, it is 145 kilometers, which takes two and a half hours. The nearest towns are Cañete, only 17 kilometers away, and Contulmo, 18 kilometers away. In this area you can completely relax in the middle of nature and observe landscapes of great natural beauty. We can not fail to mention the gastronomy that has Mapuche influence, so we recommend not to miss their traditional food.
