The best trekking routes in the central zone

This is in addition to the fact that the lower temperatures allow for longer treks, without the risk of sunstroke or sunburn. That said, let's talk a little about trekking. Trekking or hiking is an activity that consists of walking along marked routes and trails in natural environments. The mixture of beautiful landscapes with physical activity achieves great relaxation and improves the well-being of the body and mind of those who practice it. There is no age or physical limitations to enjoy trekking. It all depends on the trail you choose. The only recommendations are to choose well marked and safe places, wear appropriate clothing for the weather conditions and do not forget to be well hydrated. Some of the best places to start trekking are the following:

El Morado Natural Monument, Cajón del Maipo: Located a few kilometers from the city of Santiago, the Cajón del Maipo is the ideal place to get in touch with nature. To get there you have to access the Baños Morales sector and from there go to the sector protected by CONAF where there are marked trails. Not to be missed are the Laguna El Morado and the San Francisco glacier viewpoint.

A recommendation is that if you go in winter, it is best to make sure that the roads are open because of the snow that accumulates. Camping is not allowed in this park.

Cerro El Plomo: This is a trekking not so well known and with few technical difficulties. Besides this, it allows you to admire incredible landscapes. However, due to its high altitude (over 5000 meters) it is recommended that those who want to reach its summit make the ascent in several days.

To get there, you must first access La Parva, the town that is above the center of here. From there, the road is winding, full of curves and beautiful views of green valleys and crystalline streams. You can continue the ascent for two more days, crossing amazing frozen waterfalls and views of immense glaciers. It is a demanding trek, but a must for mountain lovers.

La Campana National Park: This is a trekking of low complexity and low altitude (no more than 1900 meters) that takes place inside the La Campana National Park, in the Fifth Region.

It is an 8-hour hike that allows you to discover some attractions such as the oak forest, Darwin's plate, and in some viewpoints you can see the Andes Mountains and the Pacific Ocean at the same time. The landscapes are really beautiful and it has a great number of plant and animal species to know and appreciate.

4.- Trekking Parque Río Los Cipreses: This is located in the VI region, in the commune of Machalí. It has an interesting native fauna, with species such as tricahue parrot, puma and guanacos. It has two beautiful trails, Los Peumos and Tricahues. One of the main attractions of these trails is that their information is written in Braile system and are interpretive.

To get there you must start in Rancagua and continue 50 kilometers to the east, heading to Pangal on a dirt road until you reach this nature reserve.

5. Altos de Lircay National Reserve: This reserve is located in the VII Region of Maule, in the commune of San Clemente and the Vilches Alto sector. It is a CONAF protected area and has camping areas near the park entrance. The hiking trails are well marked and allow you to reach one of the biggest attractions of the place, the Laguna del Alto and the famous Enladrillado, which corresponds to a natural rocky plain, and provides a wonderful view of the volcanoes Cerro Azul, Descabezado Grande and Quizapú volcano. In the distance you can also see the beautiful El Venado Valley.
