The wonder of the Desert Florido

Experts say that this year the phenomenon will be much greater than in previous years.

Seeing the desert in bloom is one of the most beautiful experiences that can be had in northern Chile. In late winter and early spring - between August and September - those who travel through the area of Atacama and Antofagasta, in the II and III regions, will be able to delight in an unusual spectacle.

A unique spectacle: In traditionally desert areas, millions of colorful flowers appear and fill the landscape with life for a few weeks. This phenomenon occurs due to the presence of rainfall, which especially this year has been higher than at other times.

One of the most representative flowers of the flowering desert in Chile is the añañuca, typical of the area, along with other endemic species. The most spectacular thing is that these flowers have spent years under the arid desert soil and awaken when the rains give them the opportunity.

In addition to this explosion of flowers, there is also a blossoming of life. Hundreds of insects, reptiles and small mammals appear next to the flowering desert. We recommend you to enjoy this beautiful landscape and take advantage of its peak, although it is estimated that it can remain until November.
