Thinking about winter vacations
We have many ideal destinations to relax, rest and enjoy a warmer climate in the middle of winter. We invite you to know some of them:
1.- Iquique:
Iquique is one of the favorite cities to visit during the winter. Not only for its pleasant temperatures that do not usually fall below 15ºC in the month of June, but also for its many tourist attractions.
If you like history you can visit the Naval Museum of Iquique, where you will find elements of the wreck of the ship Esmeralda and other ships that fought during the War of the Pacific. You can also visit the Astoreca Palace, an emblem of the golden age of saltpeter.
It also has beautiful beaches such as Cavancha, Playa Blanca, Playa Corazones - where you can also see caves with cave paintings - Playa Canavayita, among others. All of them stand out for their white sands and transparent waters, ideal for all kinds of nautical activities.
And undoubtedly one of the biggest attractions of Iquique is its Free Trade Zone, known as ZOFRI. It is the largest Free Trade Zone in the north and where you can buy all kinds of items, especially Asian, at very convenient prices. In its interior there are places to eat and rest, to enjoy a complete shopping tour.
2.- La Serena and Elqui Valley:
In the IV region is another favorite destination during the winter. From the city of La Serena you can go to this famous transverse valley, known for the production of pisco, beautiful landscapes and nights with millions of stars.
Among the attractions of the Elqui Valley are the town of Pisco Elqui, the city of Vicuña, the Mamalluca observatory and the Cochiguaz Valley, where there are camping areas.
3. Punta Arenas:
A magical and snowy world, that is what you will find when you visit Punta Arenas during the winter. If you like white sports, you can visit the Club Andino Ski Center, which has activities for adults and children such as skiing, snowboarding, snow school, among others.
But that's not all, in the middle of July the famous Winter Carnival takes place, where floats and troupes parade through the streets of the city, with dances, live music, batucadas and artistic displays, as well as an entertaining fireworks show. You can also enjoy the Folkloric Festival of Patagonia, which brings together the best traditional musicians of the area and local dances.
4.- San Pedro de Atacama:
In addition to its many attractions, San Pedro de Atacama has a great advantage, the weather is always pleasant in any season - with an average of 20ºC in June, and there are fewer people, so accommodations and restaurants can be more unoccupied than during the summer.
As for tours, they are available all year round. You can tour the Valley of the Moon by bicycle, the archaeological ruins of the Tulor Village and the Pukara of Quitor.
For high altitude tours such as the Tatio Geysers, the Atacama Salt Flat and the Altiplanic Lagoons, we recommend you wear warm thermal clothing and do not forget sunscreen and sunglasses, because despite being in winter, the radiation is always high in this area.
5.- Puerto Varas:
It is not only one of the most beautiful cities in the south of Chile, but it also offers diverse panoramas for all tastes throughout the year. The best gastronomy of German influence, beautiful landscapes and pleasant places with lighted fireplaces are already perfect to rest.
But there are also outdoor activities. You can sail on Lake Llanquihue, rafting on the Petrohue River, canopy circuit on Philippi Hill, among others.
The surroundings of Puerto Varas are full of attractions such as the city of Frutillar with its wonderful Lake Theater, the beautiful area of Ralún, which allows access to the Alerce Andino National Park and the Vicente Rosales National Park and also has thermal pools, Lake Todos los Santos and for the adventurous, visit the beautiful Cochamó Valley, although in winter rainfall is abundant.
