    METRO

    In Chile

Santiago offers a modern and safe mode of transportation underground, the Metro, which covers most of the city.

The Santiago Metro offers cheap tickets and a comfortable service that helps you to go through the city really fast, in near interesting attractions.

It has four lines with different travels:

    Line 1:
Connects Apoquindo to Maipu, covering the main street in the city (Alameda) and going through most of the important historical sights you'll want to see. You can recognize it by its red signs.
    Line 2:
Connects the northern part of the city (Recoleta) to the southwest (Gran Avenida). You can recognize it by its yellow signs.
    Line 4:
Connects Tobalaba to the most southern part of the city (Puente Alto). You can recognize it by its blue signs.
    Line 5:
Connects downtown (Quinta Normal) to the southeast (Vicuña Mackenna Ave.) You can recognize it by its red signs.

You can use the subway from Monday to Saturday, from 6:30 to 22:30 hours. Sundays and holidays, the subway is open from 8:30 to 22:30 hours.

There are Metro Buses, MetroTren and Provincial Buses that have connections with Metro. There are also white buses called "Clon Metro" which cover the same area as the different lines, on the surface.

To get on any bus in Santiago, and the Subway as well, you need to buy a Bip! Card, which can be charged with money at different places in the city and in every subway station. You can make connections between the subway and buses on the surface, and the card will only charge you one trip if the connection is made within the hour.

Fees vary depending on the hours and your age:

    Ticket Value Schedule
    Single $400 7:15 to 9:00 and 18:00 to 19:30
    Single Cheap $310 6:30 to 7:15, 9:00 to 18:00 and 19:30 to 22:30
Bip! Card $1100 and more 6:30 to 22:30
    Senior Citizens $140 6:30 to 22:30
