Day 14: Tour of Your Choice: Base Torres Trekking in Torres del Paine National Park or Grey Glacier Navigation
When making your reservation, you may choose one of the two available tours:
Base Torres Trekking: This is one of the most iconic treks in Patagonia and, for many travelers, one of the main reasons to visit Torres del Paine. The adventure begins early in Puerto Natales, where we depart by private transportation accompanied by certified guides. Trekking poles are included.
The hike begins in the area of Hotel Las Torres and continues through lenga forests, small streams, and spectacular views of Mount Almirante Nieto. The trail climbs steadily to an elevation of 870 m a.s.l. The final section, which crosses rocky terrain, is the most challenging part of the day.
Upon reaching the top, the effort is rewarded with one of the most impressive landscapes in Patagonia: the three imposing granite towers rising above the glacial lagoon, a scene that has become the symbol of Torres del Paine National Park.
After enjoying the surroundings, taking a break, and recharging your energy, we begin the descent along the same trail and return to Puerto Natales.
This is a challenging hike, exposed to weather conditions that can change quickly. It is recommended for travelers with previous trekking experience who are accustomed to hiking in similar conditions. It is not suitable for pregnant women or children under 14 years of age.
Before traveling
We recommend wearing three-layer trekking clothing, sunglasses, sunscreen, and waterproof footwear. If you have any medical condition, remember to bring any medication you may need during the excursion.
Tour times may vary depending on weather conditions and the physical condition of the passengers. The activity may be suspended in the event of adverse weather conditions, such as strong winds, rain, or snow.
Grey Glacier Navigation: Grey Glacier is part of the Southern Patagonian Ice Field, one of the largest freshwater reserves on the planet, and flows into the waters of Grey Lake. Large blocks of ice that break away from the glacier's front remain floating in the lake, creating a unique landscape that you can enjoy as you navigate among the icebergs toward the glacier.
The excursion begins in Puerto Natales, from where we travel to Hotel Lago Grey to check in. From there, a walk of approximately 30 minutes begins along Grey Beach. This three-kilometer route is exposed to the wind and leads to the pier, where we board the Grey III catamaran.
The navigation takes approximately one hour and takes us through an impressive landscape of forests, mountains, and icebergs until we reach a viewpoint directly in front of Grey Glacier. From the catamaran, you can admire its intense blue tones, the deep crevasses along its front, and the sheer scale of this mass of ice. A pisco sour or a soft drink is served on board during the navigation. The return follows the same route back to the pier.
About the walk
During the months when the Pingo River has a higher water flow, Hotel Lago Grey offers a boat transfer service that allows passengers to avoid the walking section to the pier.
This service does not operate during the low season, from May to September. During the high season, its operation is subject to weather conditions and is only confirmed at the time of check-in at the hotel.
Restrooms are available both at Hotel Lago Grey and on board the catamaran.
The route and the development of the excursion may be modified depending on weather conditions.
Accommodation in Puerto Natales.
Day 15: Puerto Natales - Punta Arenas Airport
Transfer from the hotel to the regular bus terminal to start a two and a half hour trip directly to Punta Arenas airport.
