Pan de Azúcar National Park

The Pan de Azucar National Park is located between Antofagasta and Atacama, with a surface of almost 44 thousand hectares in the comunes of Taltal and Chañaral. The park’s administration is only ten kilometers away from the park’s entrance, in Caleta Pan de Azucar, where you can also find the Environment information Center. There, you can hear lectures about the ecosystem and the place’s natural environment, as well as information about excursions inside the park.

You can get to the park using the C-120 route which leads you to the park’s administration from Chañaral (29 km), or you can ride through the route 5 Panamericana Norte, where you should take a secondary road when you reach kilometer 1014. There is another secondary road near kilometer 968, further south. They are all dirt roads.

If you would like to go camping inside the park, there are several places where you can do so: Playa Piqueros, Playa El Soldado, Caleta Pan de Azúcar, Caleta Centro El Faro and Norte Mirador. In them you can find restrooms with shower and sink, although there is no hot water. There are different spots available, but the biggest sector is Playa Piqueros (25 spots) and the smallest one is Pan de Azucar (6 spots).

For those who enjoy outdoor activities and walking around, there are eight authorized guides for you to follow if you want to walk around the park. They are called “ecotourism paths” and you can find more information on them in the park’s administration.
